Give it a Whirl Shawl Crochet Along

https://capture.dropbox.com/iIBNqdZH239ZzCHk

Have you had your eye on gradient yarns, but you don’t know where to start using them? Or have you maybe had a set of yarns that would fade perfectly together, but you need the perfect pattern?

Grab your yarns and give it a whirl during the Give it a Whirl Shawl crochet along!

Please use the coupon code CROCHETALONG to get the pattern for 25% off for the duration of the event. It works on my website as well as on Ravelry. Please click the Ravelry link with caution (or avoid it entirely) if the site re-design is inaccessible to you.

Yarn

Any yarn you like! Choose a gradient yarn you’ve been wanting to try, or create your own gradient or striping pattern with yarns you have in your stash.

Give it a Whirl has a fun, unique construction that will emphasize your color choices. The pattern produces a symmetrical triangle that is easily and comfortably worn in a variety of styles.

A shawl in changing colors (left to right) from yellow, to pink, to teal/blue is shown held up behind the back of a woman with dark hair, wearing gray jeans and a blue shirt.

The sample shawl uses a full Scheepjes Whirl [60% cotton, 40% acrylic, 1,094 yds/1,000m, 8 oz/225g] in the Rosewater Cocktail colorway. All that remained of the whirl was 5g when the sample was complete. This yarn is a 225g cake of yarn, so if you use standard 100g skeins of yarn you'll need three, or two and a mini skein, etc.

What is a crochet along (CAL)?

A crochet along is an event where we all make the same pattern together, for the fun of it!

We cheer each other on, share our work, ask questions, and chat!

Where is the CAL happening?

The CAL is happening in two places: Discord, and Instagram. You can participate on either, or both!

On Instagram, use the hashtag #GiveItAWhirlCAL to share your project.

To check out the Discord channel, click here. If you're not familiar with Discord, it's similar to Slack - you create a (free) account and there are chat threads.

Dates

This is a 6 week CAL to give you plenty of time to work through the pattern,

April 27-May 1: Choose your yarn, get your pattern, and find that crochet hook!

May 2: Begin! (If you started before now, that's fine too. Any shawl started after April 15, 2022 will be eligible for prizes at the midpoint and end!)

May 23: Half way point! Anyone who has made it through at least 3 eyelet sections and posted a photo will be eligible for the midway prize drawing. Post it in the Discord chat channel, or use the #GiveItAWhirlCAL hashtag on Instagram.

June 13: Final day to post FOs! Post them in the discord FO thread, or post it on Instagram with the hashtag #GiveItAWhirlCAL. Entries posted after this day will be enthusiastically cheered!

Prizes

Yarn prizes will be drawn at the halfway point and after event completion. Winners will be posted publicly on this site as well as on Discord and Instagram.

What will the prizes be? I'll be pulling stash skeins - 1 skein for every 5 entries. So, if there are 5 projects at the midway point, I'll pull 1 skein for a prize. If there are 10, I'll pull 2, etc. These prizes are eligible for shipping worldwide. If you haven't seen my stash, I promise the yarn is nice. It'll be a skein (or skeins) that are either indie dyed or a commercial brand like Knit Picks.
