Stash Enjoyment 2024

(Fingering weight yarn stash laid out on Ruth's black and red plaid bedspread)

Welcome to Stash Enjoyment 2024!

Stash Enjoyment is my ongoing project to enjoy and use the yarn that is already in my stash (collection) instead of continually buying more. I started doing this in 2021 with limited success, because my mindset was still in the Instagram-influenced buy buy buy mode. I've since discovered that I don't like living my life that way - I don't want to feel overwhelmed by the choices I've made, so I'm acknowledging that there were poor spending choice and moving on to work toward my goals!

This post isn't to shame anyone who has different goals, simply a place to state mine.

I'm pretty happy with how I did in 2023, and now let's chat about 2024!

Firstly, if this is something that resonates with you, welcome! There's more of us than you'd think from scrolling social media. If you're on Discord and would like to chat with those of us who are enjoying working from stash, I have a Discord Server which includes a Stash Enjoyment channel.

Your Stash Enjoyment is your own - you make the goals, you plan your method, and the reward is that you end the year proud of yourself or meeting them!

My Stash Enjoyment 2024 Goals

  1. End the year with at least 12,000 yds less than I started with. That means a deficit of 1,000 yds/month, which is very doable. In 2023 I used an average of 1,658 yds/month, so this is a very reasonable goal.
  2. Finish or Frog all projects started before 2024. I currently have 19 projects, and only completed a total of 35 projects last year, but I think it's doable if I focus on it and don't take on more than I can handle.
  3. No testing or sample making. While I enjoy pattern testing and occasionally sample making, I want to be able to modify projects so they end up as I like them. When testing and sample making, modifications are typically not allowed.
  4. Choose reasonable projects. Is someone having a baby? Make a hat and bootie set instead of committing to a full blanket (which is why 9/19 of my current WIPs are blankets - I felt I "had" to make blankets because that's what I used to do.
  5. Check in monthly, via Discord, a blog post, or other places, in order to keep track of how well I'm keeping up with these goals.

That's about it! Want to come join me and chat about your goals?
